Heritage, Hilltops & Hidden Villages in the Heart of Tinos

Discover the Catholic soul of inland Tinos on this circular walking tour through three traditional villages and the imposing Exomvourgo hill. This route offers a rich blend of religious heritage, natural beauty, and historical intrigue, making it a must for anyone seeking deeper insight into the island’s multicultural identity.

Tinos Walking Tours

Our walk begins in the traditional Catholic village of Loutra, where we visit the historic Ursuline Monastery, once a prestigious girls’ boarding school with a reputation that spread across Europe. Today, it functions as a folklife museum (open in summer), offering a glimpse into the educational and everyday life of past centuries. From Loutra, the trail ascends gently to Koumaros, one of the most picturesque villages of Tinos, with its whitewashed houses, stone fountains, and peaceful rural charm. We then continue uphill to the summit of Exomvourgo, the island’s second highest peak, where we explore the ruins of the Venetian castle and take in panoramic views of Tinos and the Aegean. The route then descends to the village of Xinara, the former seat of the Catholic Archdiocese during the Venetian era, known for its elegant architecture and tranquil atmosphere. Finally, we return to Loutra, where there is the option for an outdoor lunch with catered local dishes—a perfect way to end this cultural and scenic circular walk in the heart of Tinos.

It was great fun walking in the countryside and the information you gave us was so interesting! Definetely we will come back
