From Forest Trails to Wild Beaches – Andros at its Most Diverse

Experience one of Andros’ most diverse and rewarding hikes, walking from the forested mountain village of Arni to the untamed beaches of Lefka and Ateni. This full-sensory route offers changing landscapes, rich biodiversity, and rare geological formations, guided by experts who reveal the secrets of this hidden side of the island.

Lefka-Beach-Andros-Cyclades

Our journey begins in Arni, a historic mountain village at 470 meters altitude, with roots going back to the 14th century. Known for its Arvanite heritage, the village is surrounded by dense vegetation and fertile valleys.

We follow a descending path through fertile ravines, passing abandoned stone farmhouses, old grape mills, and threshing floors. As we approach Remata, the trail leads us through forests of oaks, plane trees, chestnuts, and walnuts, accompanied by the sound of water from the Arni river.

Remata is one of the greenest and least explored corners of Andros, hiding small wonders along the riverbed, tangled with vines and moss. It’s a forgotten paradise full of life and stories.

The trail becomes wilder as we descend through dense low Mediterranean vegetation toward Lefka Beach, crossing the reed-lined river. A secluded, pristine beach with turquoise waters awaits — perfect for a swim and a light picnic under the sun.

But the adventure doesn’t end there. We continue north along a unique stretch of rocky coastal terrain, shaped by salt, time, and wind into surreal, embroidered textures. This dramatic final section leads us to Ateni Beach, a tranquil bay where we pause for a well-earned rest and one last dip before returning.
