Ancient Cities, Village Life & Rural Charm from East to West
Step into the deep past and vibrant present of Andros on this unique east-to-west hiking tour, beginning at the awe-inspiring Zagora ancient settlement and ending at the peaceful Aladinou Bridge. This guided walk is a mosaic of archaeology, rural life, farm stops, and authentic Cycladic nature.
We begin the day at Stavropeda, from where we take a coastal path that ascends gently toward the peninsula of Zagora. This windswept promontory is home to one of Greece’s most important Geometric-era settlements (9th–8th century BC), with well-preserved walls, street layouts, and a central temple. Your guide will share the history and archaeological significance of the site — a zone protected from all modern development, with wide sea views over the Archipelago.
After soaking in the view and the energy of this ancient site, we return on the same path for a short distance before continuing southward on an old trail overlooking Pitrofos, walking along sloping hillsides with views of Chora and the western coast.
Our route passes through shady groves, old farm terraces, and fresh springs nestled among the hills. We eventually reach the cluster of rural villages known as Pera Choria, a charming example of Andros’ agricultural heritage, with stone houses and peaceful courtyards.
A highlight of the day is our rest stop at the Oak Farm — a traditional working homestead with vegetable gardens, goats, donkeys, chickens, and a garden alive with smells and colors. Enjoy a picnic with local flavors and a glass of freshly squeezed lemonade, surrounded by the slow rhythm of island life.
Our final stretch takes us along a shaded footpath to the Aladinou stone bridge, one of the few surviving medieval arched bridges of Andros. Here, next to the sound of running water, we end our walk and meet the vehicle for the return transfer.
I had a great time! The island is beautiful and very different from the rest of the Cyclades! team trekking andros really helped me and I met with them what the true Andros is.
