Springs, Waterfalls & the Old Paths of Andros
Hike through the heart of Andros’ lushest landscapes—from mountain springs to the Aegean shore. This half-day hiking experience blends natural beauty, traditional architecture, and a refreshing seaside pause.
Our journey begins in Apoikia, a charming mountain village famous for the Sariza Spring, where locals still fill their bottles with crystal-clear mineral water. From here, we take a cobbled path to the Pythara Waterfalls, a hidden paradise of cascading waters, mossy stones, and lush vegetation—a small oasis that remains cool even in summer.
We continue along a shaded trail lined with oaks, olives, walnut trees, and wild herbs, following the river’s course. On our way, we’ll pass by old stone bridges, abandoned watermills, and remnants of castle-houses and olive presses, offering insights into the island’s rich agricultural and naval past.
A peaceful pause awaits at a restored 18th-century estate, now a living botanical museum. Here you can observe native and endemic plants, walk among terraces of aromatic herbs, and listen to the sound of water flowing through ancient channels.
Our final descent brings us to Gialia Beach, a quiet, unspoilt stretch of sand and pebbles with turquoise waters—perfect for a swim and a seaside picnic under the shade of tamarisk trees.
The walk concludes at Chora (Andros Town), where elegant neoclassical mansions, Cycladic lanes, and views over the sea mark the end of a route rich in biodiversity, culture, and island charm.
“Very nice way to explore the island with people who put their heart and soul into the trails”
