The unspoiled area of Andros
Walking Tour: From Tromarchia Monastery to Korthi Bay
Across Rachi Ridge & Aidonia — A Scenic and Historic Traverse
This walking route offers a rewarding journey through diverse Andros landscapes, from the southwest hinterlands to the southeastern coastline of Korthi Bay. Traverse the ecologically significant mountain range of Rachi, explore traditional stone-built villages, and discover the springs, bridges, and towers that tell the island’s living history. A scenic and culturally rich experience guided by our local experts.
We begin at the Tromarchia Monastery, a peaceful outpost surrounded by olive trees and wide-open views of the Aegean Sea. The route follows the well-marked trail No. 4, starting with a short cemented road section before entering dirt tracks and then a stone footpath through cultivated terraces and shaded slopes.
The trail climbs gently across the Rachi Ridge, one of Andros’ most ecologically diverse zones, where spring-fed streams support dense vegetation and hidden watermills tucked into ravines. We pass the picturesque villages of Piso Meria, Nionas the medieval village of Mousionas and continue east, eventually arriving at the charming village of Aidonia.
After visiting Aidonia, the route follows cemented paths, Byzantine chapels, and country lanes. We pass St. Nikolaos and Theoskepasti Church before joining a wide dirt road that takes us along the coastal slope and eventually down to the village of Korthi and the sea.

It was great fun walking in the countryside and the information you gave us was so interesting! Definetely we will come back
