Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Andros – Arrival and Orientation

Welcome to Andros! Arrival in the morning or the evening. One of our team will meet you at the port and drive you to your accommodation. Check into your accommodation in the charming Andros Town. In the evening, gather for welcome drinks and a traditional Greek dinner. Meet your guide and fellow travelers while getting an overview of the exciting walking adventure ahead.

Day 2: Discover the Natural Wonders of Andros Town and Beyond

Embark on your first hike, exploring the rich natural and cultural heritage surrounding Andros Town. This circular hike offers an enchanting journey through Andros’ lush landscapes, combining natural beauty with cultural highlights. Starting in Andros Town, the trail gently ascends through verdant surroundings to the picturesque village of Apoikia, known for its abundant springs and traditional charm.

A highlight of the hike is the serene Pithara Waterfalls, a tranquil oasis nestled amidst lush vegetation. The cascading waters and diverse flora make it a perfect spot to pause and appreciate Andros’ unique environment. From Pithara, the route loops back towards Andros Town, descending along well-preserved paths with stunning views of the coastline and the Aegean Sea.

Day 3 : Journey Through Time – From East to West

This hike takes you from the historic Panachrados Monastery, perched high on the slopes of Andros, to the fascinating archaeological site of Zagora Ancient Settlement. The trail begins with an ascent through a picturesque rural landscape, offering panoramic views of Andros’ countryside and its neighboring islands.

The route then descends toward the site of Zagora, a unique Geometric-period settlement located on a hilltop peninsula. Explore the remarkably well-preserved ruins of city walls, houses, and temples, providing a glimpse into the lives of its ancient inhabitants. The site’s position offers breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea, making the journey as rewarding as the destination.

Hike: Panachrados Monastery – Ancient Zagora

Distance: 10 km | Elevation +400 m   600 m |Walking Time: ~4 hrs

Optional: Finish the day with a refreshing swim at a nearby beach or enjoy a relaxing pause before heading back.

Day 4:Historic Trails – From Andros Town to Dipotamata Valley to Korthi Bay

This scenic hike connects Andros Town to Korthi Bay, following a route steeped in history and natural beauty. Starting from Andros Town, the trail ascends through lush valleys, traditional settlements, and picturesque landscapes. Along the way, you’ll encounter stunning views of the surrounding countryside, the island’s coastal cliffs, and the serene blue waters of the Aegean Sea.

The trail also leads through Dipotamata Valley, a protected area rich in biodiversity and dotted with historic watermills that form part of an open-air eco-museum. The route is well-maintained, offering both rewarding climbs and gentle descents. Arriving in Korthi Bay, enjoy a well-earned break by the sea, with the option to explore the charming village or savor a light lunch at a local tavern before your return.

This hike is perfect for those looking to combine moderate physical activity with cultural and natural exploration in one of Andros’ most beautiful regions.

Distance: 13 km | Elevation Gain: +660 m 660m  | Walking Time: ~4:30–5:00 hrs

Day 5: Free Day for Relaxation or Exploration

Today is yours to unwind or dive deeper into Andros’ many offerings. Stroll through Andros Town, swim in crystal-clear waters, or simply relax. Optional activities include a cooking workshop, a farm visit,  tai chi, yoga, or massage sessions. 

Day 6: Across the Petalo Mountain – Ano Pitrofos to Batsi

This scenic hike begins in the charming village of Ano Pitrofos, perched on the slopes of Andros, and descends through diverse landscapes to the seaside town of Batsi. The trail takes you along well-maintained paths with stunning views of the Aegean Sea and the island’s rugged terrain.

The moderate ascent at the beginning rewards hikers with panoramic vistas of the surrounding hills before transitioning into a gentle and consistent descent. Along the way, you’ll encounter terraced fields, ancient stone walls, and picturesque villages that reflect Andros’ traditional Cycladic charm.

Arriving in Batsi, you’ll find a lively coastal village with inviting beaches and plenty of opportunities to relax, swim, or enjoy a delicious meal at a local tavern. This hike is a delightful blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion, perfect for those seeking a rewarding journey with a relaxing finish by the sea.

Hike: Ano Pitrofos – Batsi
Distance: 11 km | Elevation +280m 700 m | Walking Time: ~4.5 hrs

Day 7: Exploring the Natura Zone & Achla Bay

Conclude your adventure with a hike from Vourkoti, the highest village in the Cyclades at 590 meters above sea level, this hike offers a descent through one of Andros’ most pristine natural areas, ending at the idyllic Achla Beach. The trail winds through verdant landscapes, crossing terraced fields and dense vegetation, with opportunities to spot the island’s diverse flora and fauna along the way.

As you descend, the path takes you to the Achla River Valley, home to a historic stone bridge and the serene St. Nikolaos Monastery. The trail culminates at Achla Beach, a secluded haven with crystal-clear waters, sand dunes, and a small lagoon that welcomes both migratory and resident birds.

Spend some time swimming, relaxing, or enjoying a picnic at this unspoiled beach. Depending on the weather and your preferences, return to Vourkoti by boat, jeep, or on foot. This hike is a perfect mix of natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and rewarding relaxation by the sea.

Day 8: End of program

Bid farewell to the enchanting Andros Island. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the port for your onward journey.

  • Best Time to Visit: Spring (April–June) and Autumn (September–October) offer mild weather and fewer crowds.
  • Fitness Level: Moderate A good fitness level is recommended; daily walks range up to 13 km with varying elevations.
  • Travel Insurance: It is highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical expenses, cancellations, and trip interruptions.
  • Children over 12 years old can book when accompanied by an adult
  • Getting There: Ferries are available from Rafina Port to Andros

    • Comfortable hiking shoes with good grip
    • A daypack for water, snacks, and personal items
    • Lightweight, breathable clothing and layers for cooler evenings
    • Swimwear and a quick-dry towel for beach stops
    • Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
    • A reusable water bottle (hydration is essential during walks)
  • Currency: Euros (€) are used throughout Greece. While most restaurants and shops accept cards, it’s a good idea to carry some cash for small, local establishments.
  • Local Transportation: Taxis and local buses are available but transfers for guided hikes are included in your package with a private transfer
  • Language: While Greek is the official language, English is widely spoken on the islands.
  • Meals: Meals are not included (except breakfast), but you’ll have the chance to dine at traditional taverns offering fresh, locally produced dishes. Your guides will recommend the best options.
  • Transportation: We travel by private cars, taxis, or minivans. 
  • Accommodation: We stay in family-run hotels or studios/apartments in the main towns (all with private facilities).

Getting There

While Andros does not have its own airport, travelers can easily fly to nearby Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) or Mykonos Airport and then connect to Andros by ferry, only by the port of Rafina. Read More
