An evening of real Andros cooking, stories, and a dinner you made yourself.
We meet at Harikleia’s house in Livadia, where we are welcomed with fresh juice and traditional cookies. Harikleia Daniolou has been cooking since she was young — catering for weddings, appearing in TV cooking programmes, and teaching generations of children to find joy in the kitchen. She knows Andros through its flavours, and this evening she passes that knowledge on.
Together we cook a full seasonal menu — typically 1 main dish, 2 appetisers, a salad and a dessert — using local ingredients and traditional techniques. The menu changes with what the island offers: expect dishes like froutalia (the local omelette with potatoes and sausage), gemista (stuffed vegetables), or kokoras krasatos (roasted and braised in wine). Every recipe tells you something about how people have eaten on Andros for generations.
When the cooking is done, we sit together and eat what we made, accompanied by local wine or raki. This is one of the most memorable experiences to have in Andros for anyone who loves food — not just tasting it, but understanding where it comes from and how it’s prepared.
