Lush Ravines, Granite Giants & Coastal Wilderness

Often described as Tinos’ most spectacular trail, Route M3 takes you on a dramatic journey from mountain to sea, through contrasting landscapes, rich vegetation, and hidden coastlines. Starting in the quiet village of Myrsini, this hike descends through the ravine of Leivada, traverses the granite wonders of Magganari and Plati, and leads all the way to the secluded Leivada Beach and the historic lighthouse of Papargyros Cape.

Tinos Walking Tours

Our hike begins in Myrsini, a peaceful village perched on the slopes of Mount Tsiknias, the highest mountain on Tinos. The descent starts immediately, entering the lush ravine of Leivada, where towering oaks, plane trees, and running waters create a rare oasis of greenery. Tiny chapels tucked along the trail reflect the deep-rooted spiritual life of the region.

As we continue, the landscape shifts dramatically. We move through the rural areas of Magganari and Plati, where croplands and orchards are framed by massive granite boulders and exposed rock formations. This geological contrast between the arid granite slopes and the fertile foothills of Tsiknias makes the scenery uniquely Tinian.

Eventually, we reach the coastline of Leivada, a quiet beach bordered by a small wetland—a sanctuary for local birds and wildlife. From here, a smaller trail branches off toward the Leivada Lighthouse, located at Papargyros Cape, the southeastern tip of Tinos that gazes toward Mykonos.

The final stretch is along a historic stone path, once used by surface miners, which now offers a dramatic and peaceful route to one of the most remote and evocative corners of the island.
