Cave Wonders, Mountain Trails & a Scenic Descent into Town
A unique full-day adventure that combines geology, religion, and rural tradition. This hiking tour from Aladinou village to Chora takes you through the dramatic landscapes of central Andros — including a guided visit to Foros Cave, a stop at Panachrados Monastery, and sweeping views from the top of Gerakonas Mountain.
We begin in the quiet village of Aladinou, where we take a short walk to the entrance of Foros Cave, one of the geological treasures of Andros. Equipped with helmets and flashlights, we step inside a world of stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, and surreal limestone formations. This underground spectacle offers a rare glimpse into the island’s ancient natural history.
Back in the sunlight, our hike begins in earnest. The trail ascends through rugged terrain toward the serene Panachrados Monastery, nestled on the mountain slope. This historic site offers a peaceful moment before we continue our challenging uphill hike to the ridge of Gerakonas Mountain.
We pass through the small village of Fallika, and as we gain altitude, the panoramic views become ever more rewarding. From the top, take in the full sweep of the Livadia Valley, the Aegean Sea, and Andros Town in the distance.
Our path then descends on a cobbled trail, winding through the abandoned village of Petria, once a thriving community now overtaken by nature. The trail takes us through shaded oak forests and cultivated terraces until we reach the traditional village of Vrachnou, a peaceful hamlet with postcard-perfect scenery.
From here, the green valley unfolds before us. A final stretch of path leads to the heart of Chora (Andros Town), where neoclassical mansions and stone bridges mark the end of a hike that reveals both the wild and cultivated soul of the island.
“Very nice way to explore the island with people who put their heart and soul into the trails”
