Asphodelus is a genus of mainly perennial plants first described for modern science in 1753.The genus is native to temperate Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian Subcontinent, and now naturalized in other places.

In Andros about 1,055 species and subspecies of higher plants have been recorded. Three endemic plant species of Andros are listed in the Red Data Book (RDB) of Rare and Threatened Plants of Greece (2009) : Campanula reiseri, Corydalis thasia, Ferulago sartorii
