Castles, gorges, villages, and legend on the south-Andros road.
South Andros is the part of the island most visitors never reach — and the part that tends to stay with you longest. For travellers wondering what to do in Andros beyond the beach, this full-day guided tour is our most comprehensive answer — a complete journey through the island’s southern landscape, history and character.
We begin at the Monastery of Panachrados, one of the oldest on the island. Then we follow the Dipotamata Gorge, a lush corridor lined with old watermills and wild greenery, before climbing to the windswept Venetian Upper Castle — a ruin of considerable drama with a hawk’s-eye view over the sea and village patchwork below.
Stone lanes guide us through Kochylou and over Episkopeio’s graceful Love Bridge, and we descend to Grias Pidima, where surf pounds a solitary sea stack rising from the Aegean — one of Andros’ most iconic landmarks. We end with coffee in the harbour at Ormos Korthiou and a slow meander through flower-filled Aidonia before the return.
