Day by Day

DAY 1 : Arrival & Welcome Dinner

Arrive at the picturesque Tinos port, either in the morning or evening, where a warm welcome and transfer to your accommodation await. Settle in and join your group for a delightful welcome dinner featuring traditional Greek “mezes.” Meet your guide, who will provide a detailed program overview to prepare you for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: Explore Traditional Villages and Pigeon Towers

Embark on an enchanting walking journey along the iconic Tinos Trails, a path that winds through some of the island’s most picturesque villages and ends at the serene coastal landscapes of Kionia Beach and Tinos Town.

Your adventure begins in the peaceful village of Smardakito, celebrated for its traditional Cycladic charm. From here, follow the paved trails, or kalderimia, to Tarabados, a village renowned for its stunning dovecotes—intricately designed stone towers that are a hallmark of Tinos’ cultural heritage. As you continue, you’ll pass through the quaint villages of Hatzirados and Ktikados, where whitewashed houses and narrow cobblestone paths offer glimpses into traditional island life.

The route leads downhill through lush, terraced landscapes, revealing breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Your walk culminates at Kionia Beach, a perfect spot to relax by the shimmering Aegean Sea. Nearby, discover the remnants of an ancient temple dedicated to Poseidon and Amphitrite, adding a touch of historical intrigue to your journey. From Kionia Beach, a gentle coastal path brings you to Tinos Town (Chora), where modern life mingles harmoniously with timeless traditions. This tour offers a delightful blend of nature, culture, and history, providing an unforgettable glimpse into the heart of Tinos.

Day 3: Discover the Granite Plateau and Venetian Castle

Begin your adventure at Xobourgo Castle, a striking Venetian fortress perched atop a rugged granite hill. The climb to the summit reveals fascinating ruins and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Tinos and the shimmering Aegean Sea.

Descending from the castle, you’ll arrive in Koumaros, a charming village known for its traditional Cycladic architecture and maze-like alleys. From here, journey to Volax, a village celebrated for its surreal landscape, where massive granite boulders create a unique, otherworldly atmosphere. Wander through its quaint streets and witness skilled local artisans crafting traditional baskets, a time-honored tradition of the island.

Continue your trek across the granite plateau, a region defined by its distinctive geological formations, leading to the village of Agapi. Meaning “love” in Greek, Agapi lives up to its name with its picturesque narrow alleys and serene beauty, making it one of Tinos’ most beloved villages. It’s the perfect spot to pause and enjoy a tranquil picnic amidst this idyllic setting.

The journey resumes through old terraces and rustic rural landscapes, concluding in the peaceful village of Komi. This route seamlessly combines historical intrigue, architectural splendor, and the island’s unique natural beauty, offering a deep and immersive experience of Tinos’ rich heritage and stunning scenery.

Day 4: North Tinos Adventure – Exo Meria and Pyrgos

Today we will drive for 40 minutes to the North. The view to the west side with the impressive abandoned terraces and little chapels, the villages Kardiani, and Ysternia, as well as the view to Syros island, will reward you as you are getting to reach Pirgos. The largest village of Tinos is proclaimed as traditional and one of the most scenic spots in the Cyclades. 

Today’s hike is little bit challenging. Our route starts at the outset of Marlas, passing striking terraces that remind us of a gigantic theatre. It continues to Mamados, ringing the unique landscape and passing through the abandoned village of Ismail. From there the old trail ends up in Mali. The trail going down to Mali is impressive due to its unending view towards Andros. A refreshing swim in the clear blue waters of Mali will reward you. The return continues uphill, via the trail that goes by the old stonecutters, leading to the settlement of Koumelas. The uphill climb begins passing through demarcated trails, looking upon the mines of green marble, to take us back to Marlas. From there and via an excellent marble trail we descend towards Pyrgos. 

We will spend some time in the village of Pyrgos, exploring the narrow streets and alleys and of course, visiting the Museum of Marble Art followed by a treat of local delicacies. The day will end at Panormos Bay where you will have plenty of time to swim, relax, and have your lunch by the seaside. Transfer back to Tinos town in the evening.

Day 5: Village Trails of Falatados to Tinos Town

Begin your journey in the vibrant village of Falatados, one of the largest and oldest settlements on Tinos. Known for its traditional Cycladic architecture and lively local culture, this village offers the perfect starting point to delve into the island’s heartland. Wander its narrow streets, admire its historic buildings, and immerse yourself in the authentic charm of Tinos. From Falatados, continue to Myrsini, a tranquil and picturesque village nestled amidst lush greenery. Its serene atmosphere and charming alleyways provide a peaceful contrast to the busier villages, inviting you to pause and soak in the beauty of rural life. Next, make your way to Steni, a lively village located at the foot of the imposing Exomvourgo mountain. With its stunning setting, traditional houses, and vibrant character, Steni is a delightful highlight of this route, offering a true taste of Tinos’ rich heritage. The trail leads to Moundados, a serene village surrounded by terraced fields and stone-paved paths. This stretch of the journey showcases the island’s agricultural traditions and pastoral landscapes, connecting you with the timeless rhythms of Tinos’ countryside.

The walk concludes with a gentle descent through the quaint hamlet of Vaketa and into Tinos Town (Chora), the island’s capital. This scenic route blends vibrant villages, serene rural landscapes, and captivating views, providing an enriching experience of Tinos’ unique charm and diverse character.

Day 6: Circular Hike – Agios Ioannis to Laouti Beach

Embark on a scenic circular hike starting from the picturesque seaside village of Agios Ioannis Porto, renowned for its serene beaches and crystal-clear waters. As you begin your journey, the trail ascends into the heart of Tinos, leading you through the traditional village of Dyo Choria. Here, the charming Cycladic architecture and narrow alleys adorned with elegant archways provide a glimpse into the island’s timeless character. The hike continues to Arnados, another beautiful village nestled on the slopes, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the sparkling Aegean Sea. As the trail climbs higher, it rewards hikers with breathtaking panoramic vistas of the sea and neighboring islands, creating a perfect harmony between the natural and built environments. Midway through the hike, you’ll reach the historic Holy Monastery of Faneromeni, an important spiritual landmark that reflects the island’s deep religious heritage. This peaceful site offers a moment of quiet reflection amid the natural beauty. The route concludes with a descent to Laouti Beach, where the turquoise waters and soft sands invite you to relax and unwind. This hike seamlessly blends the coastal beauty and mountainous landscapes of Tinos, offering an unforgettable exploration of the island’s rich cultural and natural treasures.

Day 7: Kampos to Tinos Town via Loutra & Ursulines Monastery

Start your day in the village of Kampos, known for its rich cultural heritage. Begin your walk with a visit to the Kostas Tsoklis Modern Art Museum, an inspiring space dedicated to one of Greece’s most celebrated contemporary artists. From Kampos, descend along an excellent cobbled trail shaded by oak trees, passing through a picturesque rural landscape of terraced fields.

Arrive in Loutra, a village renowned for its historical significance as a religious center and home to the Ursuline Convent. Explore the serene surroundings and delve into its fascinating cultural past. Continue your journey to Xinara, a tranquil village that serves as the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Tinos. Enjoy the peaceful charm of the village and admire its traditional Cycladic architecture.

From Xinara, head towards the charming village of Tripotamos, where narrow streets and stone houses evoke the timeless beauty of Cycladic life. The trail then continues downhill from the small Kyra Xeni Chapel, following a beautifully preserved ancient stone-paved path.

As you descend to Tinos Town, enjoy breathtaking views of terraced fields bordered by iconic dry-stone walls, a hallmark of Tinos’ rural landscape. This final stretch provides a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and a sense of tranquility to conclude your walking journey.

Day 7: End of Program

Enjoy your final morning on Tinos. Depending on your departure time, transfer to the port or consider extending your stay to visit nearby islands like Delos or Mykonos for more adventure.

  • Best Time to Visit: Spring (April–June) and Autumn (September–October) offer mild weather and fewer crowds.
  • Fitness Level: Moderate Difficulty. Good fitness is recommended; daily walks range up to 13 km with varying elevations.
  • Travel Insurance: It is highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical expenses, cancellations, and trip interruptions.
  • Children over 12 years old can book when accompanied by an adult
  • Getting There: Ferries are available from Piraeus or Rafina Port to Tinos

  • Language: While Greek is the official language, English is widely spoken on the islands.
  • Meals: Meals are not included (except breakfast & picnics), but you’ll have the chance to dine at traditional taverns offering fresh, locally produced dishes. Your guides will recommend the best options.

Getting There

Tinos, a Cycladic gem, is easily accessible by ferry from Athens or nearby islands. From Athens, head to the port of Rafina, which is closest to Athens International Airport, or Piraeus, the city’s main port. Ferries run daily, with travel times ranging from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the service.
