Day By Day – Itineray

Day 1: Welcome and Exploration of Naxos Old Town

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted at the port or airport and escorted to your guesthouse. After settling in, we’ll provide an overview of the upcoming itinerary, along with insights into the island’s rich history and culture. Spend the afternoon unwinding on the beach or meandering through the labyrinthine alleys of the Old Town and its historic Castle district. In the evening, savor a delightful dinner at one of our preferred local tavernas.

Day 2: Walk Around Naxos’ Traditional Villages (Apeiranthos, Moni, Chalki)

Embark on a scenic hike through some of Naxos’ most picturesque villages. Traverse ancient marble-paved mule tracks and hidden valley paths, immersing yourself in the traditional Greek countryside. Along the way, visit monasteries, Byzantine chapels adorned with rare frescoes, and ancient monuments. The journey culminates at a secluded beach, where you can take a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters.

Day 3: Ascent to Mount Zas – The Highest Peak of the Cyclades

Challenge yourself with a hike to the summit of Mount Zas, the tallest peak in the Cyclades and mythologically known as the childhood refuge of Zeus. The trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the surrounding Aegean Sea. En route, explore the Cave of Zas, rich in geological formations and legends.

Distance: 10km Walking time about 3,5-4 hrs

Day 4: Ancient Path Crossing Inland Towards a Solitary Beach

Today’s journey begins in the serene village of Koronos. Traverse a remote area of the island, characterized by stunning natural landscapes and mountain vistas. The air is filled with the aroma of local herbs such as thyme, oregano, lavender, and sage, which you can gather along the way, depending on the season. In April and May, the path is adorned with wildflowers, including rare species and orchids. The trail leads to the beautiful Lionas Beach, distinguished by its multicolored pebbles. Reward yourself with a refreshing swim in its crystal-clear waters, followed by a delectable meal at one of our favorite fish taverns on the island.

Day 5: Verdant Villages, Byzantine Heritage, and Ancient Marvels

Begin with a visit to the 9th-century Byzantine church of Agios Mamas, patron saint of shepherds, to admire its striking architecture. Continue toward the Potamia villages, a lush oasis with streams, springs, and old watermills nestled in a fertile valley.
Explore the ancient aqueduct of Flerio and the famous Kouroi statues near Melanes, remnants of Naxos’ rich marble quarrying history. Pass through the verdant village of Myloi, filled with lemon, orange, and olive trees, before ending the walk in Melanes, one of Naxos’ oldest villages with its unique dark soil and timeless charm.

Day 6: Ferry to the Unspoilt Island of Iraklia

Take a ferry to the tranquil island of Iraklia, part of the Small Cyclades. Embark on a walk that reveals the island’s unspoiled beauty, characterized by dramatic coastlines, hidden coves, and crystal-clear waters. Visit solitary beaches where you can swim and relax, and immerse yourself in the island’s peaceful ambiance.

Day 7: Hike to the Largest Cave of the Cyclades

Set out on a hike to the Cave of Agios Ioannis, the largest and most unspoiled cave in the Cyclades. Marvel at its impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and learn about the cave’s geological significance. The hike offers a blend of adventure and natural wonder, providing a memorable experience of Iraklia’s hidden treasures.

Day 8: Relaxed Walk & Ferry to Amorgos

In the morning, enjoy a leisurely walk to a secluded bay, perfect for a refreshing swim. In the afternoon, board a ferry to the island of Amorgos, famously featured in Luc Besson’s film “The Big Blue.” With a transfer from Katapola port, you arrive at the stunning bay of Aegiali, known for its long sandy beaches, picturesque fishing port, and traditional villages perched atop surrounding hills. After watching the sunset, indulge in a delicious meal at one of our favorite local taverns.

Day 9: Circular Ancient Path Connecting Unspoilt Villages in Amorgos

Today’s adventure involves walking along an ancient circular path that connects the villages of Tholaria, Stroumbos, and Langada. The trail is adorned with various endemic herbs and flowers, offering a sensory delight. Enjoy supper at a local kafenio in one of the villages, and if fortunate, experience live performances of traditional musical instruments like the violin and laouto.

Day 10: Walk Along the Spine of Amorgos

After breakfast get a transfer to Amorgos’ Chora, one of the Cyclades’ most picturesque villages. Begin your day exploring the stunning village of Chora, with its narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, windmills, and numerous chapels. Don’t miss the Venetian Castle, offering panoramic views of the island. From here, follow the trail to the iconic Monastery of Hozoviotissa, perched dramatically on a cliffside. Built to safeguard a Virgin Mary icon brought from Palestine, the monastery offers awe-inspiring views of the Aegean’s deep blue waters and stands as the pride of Amorgos.
The hike continues along the island’s ridge, providing sweeping views of the Aegean on either side. Pass medieval inns, abandoned villages, and rugged landscapes, immersing yourself in the untouched beauty of Amorgos. Descend into the serene bay of Aegiali, where the hike concludes with a well-earned meal at one of the island’s oldest and most beloved taverns.

Day 11: End of Program

Spend your final morning in Amorgos savoring a leisurely breakfast and taking in the tranquility of the island. Explore Aegiali’s shops for unique souvenirs or enjoy a last swim in the bay’s pristine waters. Bid farewell to the Cyclades as you prepare for your onward journey or just extend your stay in Amorgos

Know before you go

Best Time to Visit:
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer mild weather, blooming landscapes, and fewer crowds.

Fitness Level:
This holiday is classified as moderate, with daily walks of 4–12 km on uneven terrain. A good level of physical fitness is required.

Travel Insurance:
Highly recommended for medical emergencies, cancellations, and trip interruptions.

Age Restrictions:
Children over 15 years old are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

  • Currency: Euros (€) are used throughout Greece. While most restaurants and shops accept cards, it’s a good idea to carry some cash for small, local establishments.
  • Local Transportation: Taxis and local buses are available on both islands, but transfers for guided hikes are included in your package with a private transfer
  • Language: While Greek is the official language, English is widely spoken on the islands.
  • Meals: Meals are not included (except breakfast), but you’ll have the chance to dine at traditional taverns offering fresh, locally produced dishes. Your guides will recommend the best options.
  • Transportation: We travel by private cars, taxis, or minivans.
  • Accommodation: We stay in family-run hotels or studios/apartments in the main towns (all with private facilities). The tour prices are based on double occupancy with breakfast.
  • Getting There: Ferries are available from Piraeus and Rafina Port to Naxos
