Day 2: Korissia to Ioulida – A Journey to the Heart of Kea
Start your hiking adventure from Korissia, following a well-marked trail that climbs towards Ioulida, Kea’s capital. Along the way, admire terraced hillsides framed by vibrant greenery and sweeping views of the Aegean. The gentle rustle of oak leaves and chirping cicadas accompany your journey. Upon reaching Ioulida, explore its narrow, cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed houses and vivid bougainvillea. - Language: While Greek is the official language, English is widely spoken on the islands.
- Meals: Meals are not included (except breakfast & pic nics), but you’ll have the chance to dine at traditional taverns offering fresh, locally produced dishes. Your guides will recommend the best options.
- Transportation: We travel by private cars, taxis, or minivans.
- Accommodation: We stay in family-run hotels or studios/apartments in the main towns (all with private facilities).
Getting there
- Kea is the northernmost island of the western Cyclades and the closest island to Attica, located only 16 miles from Lavrio port, with which it is connected by daily ferries.
- Access to Lavrio port is easy and feasible, either via Attika Tollway towards Markopoulo, or either via the coastal road Poseidonos Avenue and Athens-Sounion Avenue.
- The boat trip lasts just 1 hour.
- Kea has also ferry links with the ports of Kythnos and Syros.
