Day 4: Walk the mountains, visit the Olive Oil Museum, taste local dishes
Today you will experience one of the most interesting hikes of Andros with splendid view to the sea, reaching the high mountain of Kouvara. We will follow part of the old trail which connected south west Andros to the central villages and Chora, the so-called “Ample Way” (Fardia Strata). The route crosses steep mountain slopes with holy-oak, wild olives and seasonal crops. The shady stoned-trail, which has a wonderful view of the sea, passes springs, stone water tanks, old farmhouses, unusual rock formations and two waterfalls, flowing down the steep hills of the mountain, impressively appearing through the dense plantation of Paleopolis. The main route then turns north-east, passing above the Melida watermills and leading towards Ano Pitrofos through a rocky landscape. We will make a worthwhile stop to visit the Cyclades’ Olive Museum, a renovated olive press. Our route continues through the picturesque village of Pitrofos to end at the local tavern “Tou Zozef” with special dishes of Andros. Transfer back to Batsi. Evening free
Hiking tour of 9 km ( Ano Aprovato – Pitrofos) walking time around 4 hrs.
Day 5: Froussei Valley, Zorgos beach and off road.
Today we will follow the small country roads and tracks to discover the hidden landscapes and villages of North Andros. Our first stop will be the millers’ village of Froussei. The adventure continues with a 40-minute walk along a ravine of unparalleled beauty. You will be surprised with the derelict watermills and stone houses that were still open half-way through the 20th century, including the unique mill village in Andros that served the villages in the area around it. After your hike your guide will drive you for a swim to Zorgos beach, at the edge of one of the island’s wetlands. Enough time to swim, lay back, relax and enjoy some free time on the beach. Our trip continues on an off-road course along fairly even dirt roads crossing the mountainous region of North Andros and stops for a refreshing dive at one of the dozens beaches situated at the bottom of steep cliffs that we meet on the way. Before returning back the option of a generous and delicious meal at Kossis Farm awaits those who would wish to try local meat dishes. Drive of 35 km in an asphalt and track road. Evening Free
Walking tour of 2 km, walking time 1 hr.
Day 6: Lefka wetland
Today we drive to the mountainous village of Remata where our hiking adventure will start. The location of the village Remata is one of the greenest on the island with rich vegetation, running water from the river of Arni. In the green stream you will meet old farmhouses, stoned grape mills, threshing floors .The scenery changes and gets wild with dense low vegetation, as you descend the path towards the beautiful unspoiled beach of Lefka crossing the river surrounded by reeds. Time to rest, swim and have a light picnic. You will continue your hike towards the north coastline, walking on an impressive strange rocky terrain “embroidered¨ by the saltiness and the north wind to end at Ateni Beach with a fresh swim and rest at the beach! You will get a drive back to Batsi and your evening is free of activities.
