Explore the beauties in depth with six important hikes

Join us to this walking adventure holiday in Greece. Walk on the ancient paths and trails and explore the hidden beauties of this island in Cyclades with an astonishing nature, with mountainous and coastal landscapes, with abandoned terraces, old stone bridges, steep rocky cliffs, springs and small gorges. Discover the very promising flora with its medicinal herbs and get familiar with the history and culture of Andros.

Day 1

Arrival day and check-in at the Hotel. Welcome drinks and Greek ‘mezes’ in the evening, first meeting and some information about the program.

Day 2: Explore the surroundings of Chora

Discover the unique nature of the island, walk across the riverbed, visit old castle-houses, stone bridges, watermills, traditional olive presses, impressive old mansions and finally reach one of the island’s most important wetlands. Light lunch at a local tavern. Evening Free

Hike: Chora -Apikia –Chora.

Distance 12 km, walking time around 4,5 hrs.


Day 3: Menites & Panachrados Monastery

Today we walk to the abundant springs of Menites, and via an excellent footpath, we pass through the settlements of Messaria, the old Byzantine center of the island and we reach the Panachrantou Monastery (alt.500m), a living historical and architectural monument. Short rest – picnic lunch. 

Hike: Chora – Menites – Panachradou Monastery- Chora. From Chora (circular from Andros Town)

Distance 14 km, walking time around 4,5 hrs.

Day 4: Dipotamata Valley and Korthi Bay

We follow the old highway from Chora to Korthi, the central agricultural and commercial artery for South-East Andros until 1950. Explore the most important structures in Dipotamata gorge, the watermills, consisting the basis of an open-air eco-museum!! Passing through the picturesque village of Kochylou we arrive at Korthi Village where we will have a light lunch by the sea. We will return back to your accommodation early in the evening. 

Hike: Chora – Korthi.

Distance of 12 km, walking time around 4hrs.


Day 5: Free Day

This day is free of scheduled activities. Walk around, swim, sunbathe, relax, go shopping or arrange your own tour to some of the many interesting sites of the island.  A cooking workshop, a Tai-chi or Qigong class, a Yoga class, or water sports activities may be easily arranged on site, only upon request.

You could also let yourself be treated by the experienced hands of our massage therapists.

You will meet your tour leader at 19.30 for the fair well dinner .

Day 6: Crossing the Petalo Mountain

Today starting from Ano Pitrofos Village we will hike into the wild.  Part of one of the longest routes in the network which follows the old trail, connecting North-East Andros to the west part. With splendid views of the sea, walking on an excellent maintained old trail we will arrive in Batsi.  Picnic on the route. Upon our arrival, you will have free time to swim, relax or have lunch before you return back to the hotel. 

Hike: Ano Pitrofos Village to Batsi

Distance 12 km, walking time around 4 hrs.


Day 7 : From east to west

Today, we start from the Panachrados Monastery crossing the Mountain Gerakonas, connecting the east coast to the west. The beautiful rural landscape unfolds in front of you the agricultural character of the old times, while you experience magnificent views of the country villages. Once reach the west side we will arrive at a hill peninsula with the impressive remains of city walls, houses, streets, and the temple of the settlement of Zagora, dating to the Geometric period. The area has been nominated as a zone of absolute protection against modern interventions. Admire the view to the Archipelago!!! After a short rest, we walk for another 1,5 km to reach the main road where our hiking tour ends. Optional pause to the neighbor beach for swimming. 

Hike: Panachrados Monastery to Zagora Ancient Settlement

Distance 10 km walking time around 3,5 hrs.


Day 8: Explore the Natura Zone

Starting from Vourkoti, an authentic rural village with the highest altitude in the Cyclades (620m), the path follows a slope that borders the northern side of the long, narrow Achla valley. It then descends to a deep river, crossing over an old stone footbridge, near the historical St. Nicolaos Monastery where we stop for visiting. The walk continues towards the North-East, above the verdant Achla valley, officially nominated as a protected area of natural beauty. Achla bay at the end of the route is a beautiful unspoiled beach with dunes and caves, where the river estuary forms a small lagoon that welcomes both migrant and resident birds. A zone of absolute protection! Rest and swim and picnic at the beach. Depending on the weather, we return to Chora by a little boat, or by jeep car, or hike back again this time up to St.Nicolaos Monastery.
Evening free.

Hike : Vourkoti – Achla- Ag.Nicolaos 

Distance 11 km walking time around 4 hrs.

Trip Details

Insurance: Participants should be covered by their own personal travel-health insurance prior to the trip. The personal insurance must at least cover medical expenses as well as air rescue and the cost of repatriation.

Transportation: We travel by taxi , private cars or minivan 

Accommodation: We stay in family run hotels or studio/apartments in the main towns (all with private facilities).The tour prices are based on double occupancy with breakfast.

Food: Every morning we have breakfast and hand made picnic or lunch at a tavern on route. Lunch or dinner, if included in your program. (Vegetarians are welcome on our tours. Ask for the special diet menu)

Group Size: 2-10 participants.

The walks offer a moderate difficulty with a maximum of 4-5 hours walk. Participants should be in good physical condition with a little experience.
